Joseph B. Patterson


Mr. Patterson founded the firm in 1977 and continues to be involved in day-to-day management of client portfolios and in developing investment strategies addressing the varied goals of our institutional clients. He also coordinates the firm’s efforts in research and portfolio oversight methods. He served for seven years as Vice President of First Boston and was instrumental in the formation of their MBS department in the 70s. Prior to that time, he was associated with E.F. Hutton and Company and Dean Witter. He holds a BS in economics from Villanova University and an MBA from New York University. Mr. Patterson was a U.S. Marine Corps officer and served in Viet Nam from 1966-67. In May of 1993, Mr. Patterson was conferred an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree from Villanova University. Mr. Patterson served on the Board of Directors of the USO in 1995 and served for many years as a Board member of Bighorn Institute.

Jean M. Clark


Ms. Clark joined the firm thirty-five years ago as an assistant portfolio manager, supervising trading and back-office operations. She became Senior Vice President in 1988, managing client portfolios. She has experience with all types of institutional accounts: pension, cash, Taft-Hartley, etc., and works with Mr. Patterson in developing investment strategies. Ms. Clark is also pivotal in maintaining client and consultant relationships. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors from the University of San Francisco.

H. Patricia Gates


As Senior Vice President of Administration, Ms. Gates has been an integral part of our firm since she joined thirty-six years ago, actively participating in the development and enhancement of our firm's compliance, technology and client communications efforts. Ms. Gates is charged with ensuring that all employees are guided in their activities by the highest ethical standards appropriate to our role as a fiduciary of client funds. Ms. Gates grew up in Europe where her family was affiliated with the United States Diplomatic Service and she is fluent in several languages. She graduated from schools in France and Switzerland and attended the University of Texas.

Gregory Welch


Mr. Welch joined the firm in 1996 and, after several years managing our fixed income research database, he moved to the investment desk and became involved in portfolio analysis, trading, and research. Today, as Vice President and a portfolio manager, his primary emphasis is on the day-to-day management of client portfolios and trading, as well as security and market research. Mr. Welch received his BA from UCLA in 1994 and his CIPM (Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement) from the CFA in 2007.
